You know what’s fun? Furry costumed creatures that talk. They’re floppy and funny, even that creepy one that loves getting tickled. You know who loves ‘em? Kids. And no one loves kids more than Big Tobacco. They love them so much that as long ago as 1969, they said they would avoid advertising directed to young people. Ain’t that just sweet? Yet just 10 years later, they supplied their products to be featured in The Muppet Movie. Crazy, right? Crazier than this?

So, they didn’t think placing their product in kid’s movies was advertising to young people. We say, whudafxup? What do you think – advertising or not?

  • ADVERTISING!

That is so horrible, and the thing is that I remember that advertisment.

its crazy how long you remember things like that, Im 18 now, and when did that movie come out? yeah thats a long time…

  • I didn’t see the advertising.. what part is it?

  • yes its advertising.

  • Definitely product placement.  Heck, if Kermit succumbs to ash, there’s no hope for the world.

  •           Hmm…yes, where are the scenes of advertisement within the movie? Please back up your information with proof…otherwise it sounds as if you’re exaggerating.
Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy reading the posts on this site. I just think there needs to be visible proof so everyone can see you’re not making the facts up. Thanks.

  • Big Tabaco is practically being squished out. The laws against advertising has worked greatly. Now the only way to stop smoking is to work with the smokers themselves.

  • what isn’t mentioned here is that no one is ever smoking anything. there are cigars lying around in a couple scenes but NEVER any smoking.
Also, the muppet movie was intended for an adult audience.

  • of course it is! my 5 year old cousin watches the muppets show but im pretty sure my uncle doesnt! who do u think is more likly to see the advertizement?

  • And who exactly is BRINGING the kids to see it? adults.  If the movie is for kids under 16, you can bet theres one or 2 adults who were forced to bring them there… unless you think children drive themselves… so clearly if there is a product placement in a kids movie it is not just advertising to kids.  I am not saying cigarettes are awesome, but come on.  If you’re trying to advertise that the cigarette companies are evil, at least give us an example that isnt stretching the truth yourself.
