Almost home!!
Aaahh…we’re almost done! This past weeks however feels like it’s been 2 weeks because all the things we’ve been doing.
Boston, MA- Meet someone who primarily goes to Warped Tour just so he can stand next to the Truth truck and hang out and support us! He had this funny Jackie Chan sign and he also had so many old Truth merch on (including to pairs of socks)! Not only that, he was in the commercial where 1200 people “dropped dead” in front of a tobacco company’s building illustrating how many people die a day due to tobacco related deaths (One of my all time favorite commercials!).
Buffalo, NY- I LOVE being next to amusement parks….ESP if we can go in for free with our passes!! Right after work we went right in Six Flags where me and Chelsea (along with Nick from As I Lay Dying) and rode roller coasters and ate Dippin’ Dots! I seriously miss amusement parks.
Columbus, OH- 3 DAYS OFF! YESS! Much needed rest, relaxation…AND SHOPPING! Yeah, I think I did some damage on my wallet, but I did end up with really awesome clothing. I even had to buy a new duffel bag for my new stuff. I also started a savings account, registered for school, worked out at the gym, and paid off a credit card. I felt really productive that weekend! I miss that bed and shower now though…
St. Louis, MO- Ok…TERRIBLE day, mostly weather wise. I volunteered to do inventory that morning with Chelsea. Long story short…100+ degrees in the sun sorting though boxes of 5 days worth of merchandise. INSANE. We haven’t been in really hot weather in a while, so it was almost a shock to be in horrible weather conditions again. I’ve must’ve seen so many people faint that day too. Note to everyone coming to Warped tour: DRINK LOTS OF WATER!
Kansas City, MO- Well…Bonner Springs, KS. Weird, eh? Well, the weather didn’t get any better, but at least there was the occasional breeze. Another normal day. Afterwards. Me Jeannine and Jess went to go watch Sum 41 who just joined the tour. They put on a really fun show, I love when the bands include “audience participation”, haha.
But yea, that was my week. Tomorrow is another day off, but we’re just driving most of the day. I’m starting to get REALLY excited about finally heading back west! I miss my California. But awesome, at least I can say I’ve been to Kansas!

Your commercials are retarded and I get tired of seeing them. I am not a smoker, I think those that do are retarded, but your commericals do NOTHING to fight smoking. They are much worse than ANY tabacco commerical that ever tried to “sell” to kids, ESPECIALLY with your company name. Give me a break.
i agree partially… i used to think these commercials made a difference but now your name is “what the fuck is up”? you’re alienating a very very large chunk of the people you were advertising to, not all teenagers curse. that’s gotta be one of the dumbest advertising schemes i’ve ever heard of.
hey, in your commercials you always casually mention excerpts from “big tobacco” documents, about plots that they talked about and never carried through, or schemes they were coming up with that executives proposed.
do you have these documents somewhere? because i kind of just dont believe you when you say it. are they online? you say your anti-manipulation, but that, and this website, and your whole marketing campaign seems to be nothing but a giant manipulation for a demographic of idiot teenagers who think pop-punk and wacky internet games are cool…
“you say your anti-manipulation, but that, and this website, and your whole marketing campaign seems to be nothing but a giant manipulation for a demographic of idiot teenagers who think pop-punk and wacky internet games are cool…”
Ditto. Plus, a lot of your statistics are manipulative. A 75 yr old who smoked and dies of heart disease was killed by cigarettes. Never mind the fact that people who don’t smoke die of heart disease as well. Even if cigarettes aggravate bad health issues, equating them with the cause of death is not being very, well, truthful, in my opinion.
Oh, and I love this part too: you’re funded by the government (because we all know it’s the government’s job to discourage smoking, amirite?) which has a large tax on cigarette sales. How cool is that? If “big bad tobacco companies” were the true harbingers of death you try to peg them as, how could you in good conscious take a kickback from their sales?
I don’t smoke. I don’t think it’s a wise choice (health concerns, hygiene issues, money sink, etc). However, it’s not illegal. Let people make their own decisions. Tobacco companies are no more manipulative in their advertising than any other market (car commercials, restaurants, etc) and seem to be less so than you are. The worst part is you try to do it under the guise of Truth.
And what’s up with that stupid commercial with the centaur holding the sign and stating “Nearly 80% of Ohioans don’t smoke.” or whatever. Hey guess what? You’re trying to fight peer pressure with peer pressure. So, for sake of argument, let’s say 85% of Ohioans smoked. Should your lemming TV viewers smoke then? Because that’s what I’m getting. Maybe if a fake “cool” teen were holding a sign saying they shouldn’t, they’d overcome the statistics.
I hate how bloated, bureaucratic crap government organizations like this get any funding whatsoever. I get to pay taxes knowing I’m funding programs that are such a waste.
I for one find your commercials to be an incredibly lame attempt to shed light on evil big tobacco corporations. You just point to a bunch of stupid petty conspiracies, which seem fabricated as a few commentators have pointed out due to the lack of evidence presented, but also because of the simple truth that Joseph Stalin pointed out: “The death of one is a tragedy. The death of a million is just a statistic.”
But I’m not totally against you guys. I’m not, because I know the truth, which is this: As much as you rant and rave against conglomerated tobacco, the fact remains that you need them. Yes, you do. If big tobacco ceased to exist today, you people would be out of a job and panhandling on the streets. I don’t like your ads, but at least it pays the mortgage, right? So go ahead, keep airing your commercials, but remember that every time you air your commercials, you acknowledge your dependence on big tobacco. People become addicted to cigarettes, both psychologically and physiologically. You may or may not know it, but you are also addicted too. You are financially addicted to cigarettes.
And your little slogan is a telltale sign that you don’t bite the real hand that feeds you. “Whudafxup”? If you were really passionate about your little anti-smoking campaign, you would tell the FCC to go screw themselves and display your corny little slogan with the full respect it deserves, in all of it’s uncensored, unadulterated glory. So, I’m going to turn it back to you once more, with feeling.
“What the FUCK is up?”
why do you care if i smoke?

Crispin Porter and Bogusky’s response to this and indeed any form of critique is of course that you “just don’t get it”, or “these ads aren’t meant for you ANYway”. Such limited and infantile retorts are why they’re systemically unable to engage in any form of debate with any of us mere mortals.
I like your commercials a lot and I think they’re great. I wish I could be more argumentative but I genuinely think you’re doing a good thing.
